Neck and shoulder tensions

Your upper fibres of your trapezii muscles run from the base
of your neck out accross the tops of your shoulders.
The stress and strain of modern life or prolonged demanding
postures, such as using a laptop computer or driving, can lead
to hypertonia of your trapezii. In other words many aspects of
our lifes can lead to an increase in the background tension of
your  neck and shoulder muscles.  Hypertonia can increase untill you feel a nagging
ache and strain.Your hypertonia may persist over time and might start to experience
soreness and discomfort. Eventually pain and immobility may arise. Osteopaths are
well placed to treat people with neck and shoulder tensions with soft tissue
techniques (massage) for your trapezii and other neck and shoulder muscles and
gentle movement (mobilisation) of your neck and shoulder joints.
